Hi Everybody

If you have ever celebrated a holiday then this message is for you. If your anything like me I am super great about following my eating regimen during the week when I’m on a normal 9-5, predictable schedule. However, holidays are always tough because my time is not really scheduled so it’s hard to pre-organize my meals.  And of course during the holiday’s I may go to events that involve food that I didn’t cook so I’m not completely sure what I’m going to be eating.

I’m sure many of you can relate and have been in this situation.  So here are a couple tips that I came up with to help you stick to your eating regimen but still enjoy food that you love.

If you are at home, eat your normal breakfast when you wake up or whatever meal you start off with.  Sometimes people like to save all their calories for the day for a special event on holidays but that sets you up for actually stuffing yourself and overeating once you get to the event.  Start off the day eating your normal meals so that when you attend the event you not starving and your body is already prepared to eat a normal portion size.

When you get to the event drink water first so your hydrated and your body does not mistake the feeling of thirst for hunger. Let the water fill you up then move on to the food.

When your ready to decide on which food to get, start off with the protein and vegetables first, then decide on your carb.  Protein is going to fill you up and won’t end up turning into sugar.  Vegetables have nutrients and vitamins that’s good for your body.  If you do get a carb. try to make that your smallest item about a spoon full.

Now if your faced with a lot of carb. goodies, mac and cheese, potato salad, pasta salad, corn bread. Either pick one that you’re going to eat and let that be your carb. dish or get a small spoon full of each one so that you are averaging about ½ cup to 1 cup total of all your carbs.

Make your total meal portion size small, get a small plate if you need to, eat it enjoy your friends/family, talk, laugh, drink water. Then if your still hungry go back and get another small plate.  Don’t pack your plat full of food because many times we eat everything on our plate just because it’s there.

So give these tricks a try, see if it helps, I know it’s tough during the holidays and you really want to enjoy yourself but remember, the enjoyment comes from being with the people that you love and that you enjoy spending time with.

Give these tips a Try!

Next Steps:

Take a look at your calendar and get an idea of what events are coming up soon.

Challenge yourself to try the above mentioned steps
